Joseph, I respect your opinion on many subjects where I've read your comments here and at Homegrown Goodness forums. I think your ideas about horticulture, seed saving and sharing resources are valid and worthy.
Let me express my ideas about this particular individual more clearly and extensively before anyone judges my intentions regarding my earlier post above ...
First of all, Mr. Campbell came into IDigMyGarden a couple or three months ago, and within his first two or three posts, he was SELLING OSU BLUE Tomato seeds in the "TRADING Bazaar" forum:
idigmygarden.com/forums/showthread.php?t=39510He has conveniently edited post #1 there, as you can see, but take my word, his initial and sole intent was SELLING SEEDS, not trading, not sharing, but SELLING.
Okay, now Mr. Campbell may be the nicest fellow on earth. I don't know. And there's nothing wrong with selling seeds. And I don't give one rat's ass about what is sold over at IDig if Jere Gettle doesn't give a shit either. But ...
As you know, Joseph, the OSU Blue seeds have been SHARED FOR FREE all over the gardening boards you and I frequent. Here, at Homegrown, at Dave's Garden, at Tomatoville, at Tomatoland (RIP), and yes at IDig, for a few years now in fact. We all have them or have FREE ACCESS to them and have had for 3 or 4 years now. So, why do we need a seed whore dealing UNSTABLE OSU Blue seeds for jacked up prices? Let him peddle his stuff on eBay where he sells it for 8 or 10 bucks a pack to suckers.
Next ...
Now Mr. Campbell is soliciting seeds for "STRANGE TOMATOES."
idigmygarden.com/forums/showthread.php?t=41885And it's again obvious all he really wants is to obtain a half dozen or so seeds for each unusually weird variety he can beg or trade, grow out one or two plants of each, gather up a gob of seeds, and sell them to suckers on eBay for 8 - 10 bucks a pop.
You can see from that last thread I linked that he is not interested in buying bulk, as you suggest may profit someone like you or me. Hell No! He just wants us to give him a half dozen seeds of our best stuff so he can grow his own bulk seeds. What do we get? Ask him to post his list of "trade goods." I bet we all have everything he's got, or can get it FREE, or probably don't even want it.
And when I was teasing him with F2 seeds for Cherokee Tiger, what did he do? Poo poo'd the possibilities. Look, if I were to send him 75 F2 seeds for that tomato, and only 64 sprouted and lived, he would have 62 totally different plants/fruits to choose from. All kinds of shit. Yellow flesh, green flesh, red flesh, purple tomatoes with rusty stripes, red tomatoes with yellow stripes, green tomatoes with rusty/silver stripes or bronze stripes, yellow tomatoes with red streaks, chartreuse leaf, dark green leaf, pale green leaf, dwarf determinate, dwarf indeterminate, short internode indeterminate, regular leaf, rugose leaf, short internode determinate, globes, elongated globes, grapes, ping pongs, large, small, all sorts of stuff in all combinations, freaky combinations.
But he knows I was gonna ask maybe $5 bucks a seed. LOL! Or more likely tell him to kiss my ass. So, he poo poo'd and duck waddled off to something else.
Look, bottom line, there are guys here who have all sorts of unusual stuff they'll share with anyone under the right conditions. But tell me, Joseph, why should any of us be pimpin' our stuff to a seed whore?

Well, after posting this message, I read where Joseph has cancelled his membership at TTG. That's too bad, because Joseph has a lot to offer all of us. He is a legit grower and has many legit ideas and a ton of resources.
I wish he'd at least come back long enough to read my ideas as posted in this message. He might still disagree with me, and he might still think I and others treated Mr. Campbell rudely and inappropriately. So be it.
If anyone runs into Joseph at Homegrown Goodness, please pass my message along to him with my sincere wishes that he take the time to consider my thoughts. Because I think he will see that I too only want to openly share what I can with other tomato growers, that's what I've done now since 2004 on all the boards, but that I don't think Mr. Campbell's intentions are anything other than "obtain and sell" at jacked up prices. That is what I've observed. And Mr. Campbell hasn't posted anything anywhere I've read yet to convince me otherwise. As I said, let him post his list of trades rather than bait you over into email conversations and try to obtain 5 or 6 seeds ....
Okay, enough said. Screw it.
