Hey Jason, what was the packing date on those Delicious seeds? Ive been growing these for years, and still have not found the true Giant strain, until Dean mentioned a line he has from Gordam Graham himself.

I could see why that caught your attention hawk! ;D
I was unaware that there was a "giant strain" or any other "strain" of the variety Delicious. I simply don't understand how people can confuse environmental growing conditions with "strains".

I think that the world record was a fluke...and could have happened to any of the cultivars that attain large size and I am sure we will see another large record breaker come out of something other than Delicious, I do have the Gordon Grahms stuff, but let me go on record as saying I don't think it was the type, rather perfect environmental conditions. I have grown delicious before and didn't get any large ones at all. I think you would see the next record coming out of the Bi-color tomatoes like Big Rainbow or Arkansas Marvel etc etc I had some huge examples of these, and almost every time i plant them.

I think that the world record was a fluke... Well, not a fluke, but heavily environmentally influenced by the grower. Required tremendous intervention with fertilizer and other growing conditions to attain that large size. Certainly very difficult to replicate.

I've bought seeds from this company before. Both packs were good. One was of Roma VF- that did really well. The other was of a giant cantaloupe variety- that did not do so well. But it really wasn't the company's fault- the Carolina Giant cantaloupe has little-to-no resistance to CMV.
Goodbye Cantaloupe!
Where I live disease resistance is king!
