Due to the apparent interest in dwarf tomatoes, This weeks pick is Dwarf Recessive..not much info at Tatianas site in fact the only thing there is a pic from our own JC. I am growing this for the first time this year, although that isn't totally true, we had a couple in the Arctic Experiment..still waiting for fruit though. Those of you who have grown this can probably add some info. My observation so far is it is a very strong plant and not really a small one. Thats the confusing part about dwarfs when people hear the name they automatically assume "Small" plant. Not true..some have got to over 6 feet in the AE.

Like I've mentioned to you before, your plants likely reached 6 feet in height in the greenhouse due to the low natural and artificial light conditions. Dwarf Recessive for me was essentially the epitome of most dwarfs. Poor taste. Rugose PL foliage. 3-4 feet tall by end of season. 2-4oz pink fruit. Decent production.

I wans't reffering to DW, it stayed in about the 4 foot range, and light conditions where optimal. Some of the determinates were the culprits, alot of the dwarf stuff stayed manageable.

Dwarf Recessive is PL according to Craig Lehoullier who got it from the GRIN collection of the USDA

Yes, Beautiful plants, I agree...however, Jt seems to think that taste isnt there, so my question is... Why grow them? Or are you trying to improve on them, like the OSUs?

Or are you trying to improve on them, like the OSUs? I'm growing OSU Large both from you and Darth, and I wonder if this is a (further) cross because of the size and taste.

Dwarf Recessive is PL according to me too. I grew it once in 07. I don't grow anything that sucks twice. ;D

My stepson has grown this one twice in his raised bed. It has never had the kind of production John's had with his plants, but part of providing garden space to a child is letting them take care of the watering and weeding, so mileage may vary with better care. That being said, the few fruit he did get were rather sweet. Since it wasn't a large harvest, the fruits were de-seeded for seed-saving and used in green salads. He's shared seeds with a number of people who are interested in dwarf plants because of small gardens or apartment balconies.
