I can't help but to already start planning next years garden. It won't be tomato season for me for about eight more months. This could make for a very long winter!
I am looking to plant one or two green varieties next year and am considering between Aunt Ruby's German Green and Emerald Apple. Has anyone ever grown both of these, and how do they compare?
I am also open to other suggestions if there are other varieties worth considering.
Thanks! Jason

I've only grown ARGG and it was my favorite GWR tomato, that is until I tried Malakhitowaya Shkatulka and Green Bombs, now those are the yummiest tomatoes ever. Highly recommended! ARGG tastes very bland in comparison, those two are rich and sweet!

Green Giant is the best of the GWRs I've tried.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll definitely be looking into the suggested GWR varieties! I do hope someone on TTG can speak to Emerald Apple. Of course everyone selling seeds for it says it's a great tomato, but you know how that goes. I was hoping to get an honest opinion. Thanks again for the great recommendations.

My all-time favorite green tomato (Hands Down!) is Absinthe.

Gardenfrog and Fiogga, I would love to hear what made Absinthe your favorite. What is the flavor, productivity like, etc?

I grew Aunt Ruby's German Green and Grub's Mystery Green. I liked the Grub's Mystery Green better.

Hi jjrasm, I really liked Absinthe for the flavor. It has that acid punch along with some delectable sweet overtones. Truly luscious in my opinion. It is also quite a good looking beefsteak type green with some rose blush on the bottom. My plant was disease free and produced very well up till frost. I'll always have a spot in my garden for it!

Green tomatoes, you can really eat them like that? Tomato sandwich #151 of 2O1O season on 22 November that year. Welcome to TTG!

Ripe, red tomatoes pack a vitamin C punch, and green tomatoes have similar amounts of vitamin C even though they have not fully ripened yet.

Green tomatoes are a healthy source of fiber, which your intestinal and digestive systems rely on for good health. One cup of green tomatoes supplies about 2 g of dietary fiber. Fiber is present in most fruits, vegetables and whole grains, so increasing your intake of these foods, including cooked green tomatoes, can help you get enough in your diet.

green tomato benefits include three times the amount of calcium as the red tomato.
