I love it! I'm glad to know I'm not the only one stalking hornworms at night. In the middle of the summer I'm out there with my flashlight stalking those beasts!

I lost 2 tomatoes. One to a massive split, and one to small worms. The tomato was sitting on the ground.

Am curious how big your plant is now, garf. Will you show us another picture? Do you have a cage or tripod in place to keep it off the ground a little?
Hornworms are certainly tomato-terror evilness. They'll munch down whole top halves of young plants overnight... And they about the only thing that will eat right into a green tomato regardless of its size or maturity.
Late in the year though, the hornworms are replaced by shield bugs will drink up the fruits from their, umm, head-straws. I don't like the little black bruises they cause.
Proboscis. I looked it up. Proboscis.

The plant is on its way out. I had to trim off half the plant. One vine was 4' long.

The plant is almost shot. One green tomato left. The last 2 rotted.

Looks like the plant has had it. The last tomato is destroyed. Time to pull it. I hope the seed is still good. Attachments:

Hey, Garf! I grew a Red Brandywine plant once that was given to me. I never bothered to taste it. How was it?
