OK, its Sunday and time for the new TOW. This week we are featuring Black Cherry. This is also one of my best sellers, it has a good balance of sweet to acid and I don't know any people who tried it and did not like it. Again, keep in mind tomatoes are influenced by many things. What is great here may not be great where you are. This one was only surpassed by Snow white. Rumor has it that there is one better, Purple Haze F1 although were one can aquire it is still vague.

This is my fvorite among non red cherries (the reds I like are Matt's Wild Cherry and Sungold Red- my on selection from an 'almost' OP Sungold) It is sweet with just that tiny little acid it needs for a well balanced taste. Just perfect

Aw, and you plant them for your wife, Blane. That's sweet.
I've been growing a black saladette for a few years that have good taste but not so good production. From the looks of Blane's pic, I think I should give these a go in 2011. Thanks for posting about Black Cherry.

There will be those that do not have the same results with a particular breed. I have never been ask for a sungold, I have been asked for the snow white and black cherry repeatedly. I am sure there will be different taste's involved here also. Sweet vs Tang. etc...

One of my favorite cherries and easily my favorite OP cherry tomato. Great flavor. Grow it every year and will continue to. Used it as a crossing parent multiple times last year and will continue to. Plant is RL and can grow rather large. Fruit is around 1oz or so with clear skin. Taste is excellent....sweet with a little tang to it. Here's the only really good pic I have of it. Sliced from 2009 side-by-side with negro azteca which taste-wise did not compare.

Ciao all-
I've given Black Cherry a few seasons in my garden. The flavour was good, but the skins were very tough and off-putting. I like Haley's Purple Comet, but it's on the border between cherry and saladette for size. I'm looking forward to Purple Haze. Indian Stripe x Sungold sounds worth a try as well.

Been growing Black Cherry every year since 2003, the first year. It's a must grow in my garden as it has such a great rich, sweet flavor.

Black Cherry was put to it's best use in Purple Haze, and I will not be at all surprised to see several Hall of Fame tomatoes eventually grown from Purple Haze future generations.

I was also only moderately impressed with Black Cherry. The best dark red cherries I've tasted are from still segregating lines from IS x Sungold and CP x Sungold.

Ya I had been growing Tommy Toe maters so many many years I never even considered another. As of late however I have tried Matt's wild and Black cherry. Both prolific but I stayed with the black cherry because the off color confuses birds and squirrels. That is huge for me with the intense population and problems generated. So This year the Black cherry is the only cherry in my patch and it is prominent there. Train

Yeah, welcome Train! I will have two Black Cherry plants in my Garden this year. I am planning on cutting some of them in half and "sun drying" them, I heard that these are excellent for that.
