Rich, I look at it this way: February 2nd + six weeks = St. Patrick's Day. Pretty much have to expect winter to last until St. Patrick's Day whether the groundhog sees his shadow or not ... at least north of the Ohio River and east of the Mississippi.

The groudhogs have been eradicated here, as with any burrowing animals, so if one did get away, he would probably lie anyhow!!

Well its geting to spring here so it is time to remind those of us who beleive in the god thing who to thank.
God thank you for alowing us to survive another winter here in Nothern Michigan. As our thoughts and actions prepare us for the planting season ahead. With your blessings and help We would like to have your help for a healthy crop, Disease free and an early spring in which to plant. All of we here at TTG would ask your blessings and help may our prayers reach you with the warmest of hearts and best wishes. May God bless all those that have taken the time and energy to read this blessing and prayer for growers and planters. The Rev. With warmest wishes and the best of planting
May the groundhog rule

Around here, groundhog = dogfood (hot lunch), unless he's awful fast.

If you observe nature in your area, you will know for sure when there will be no more frosts. For me, the first sign are the bugs: ants, bees, flies...
But I'm only sure I can plant out my frost sensitive plants (maters, peppers, eggies,...) when I see the first hornet. They are terribly frost sensitive and only come out when all danger of frost has passed...

As His word says to "acknowledge Him in all your ways and He shall direct your path".
