I'm boycotting Burpee 'cuz of them pilfering Brad Gate's name for Berkeley Tie Dye. I don't care what they offer, there's something else I can find better somewhere else.
If Walmart wants to feature Burpee Seeds, that's their loss.

Walmart used to carry Northrup King and American Seed Company packets alongside the Burpee displays. But then Burpee starting packaging the Walmark branded packets. Guess Burpee asked for and got exclussive rights to peddle their packs and the others disappeared. Seems also that's about the same time the selection dwindled to just a few of Burpee's tomato varieties too.
Why am I bothering with this discussion. Walmart and Burpee are about the last place in the world I'd buy tomato seeds anyway.

Who owns the Bonnie line of libe plants? They've got the market sewn up tight everywhere, WM, Lowes, Home Depot, feed stores...

I was at Walmart on Thursday and noticed a huge display of Northrup King seeds. Thank goodness they have an alternative to their smaller Burpee display.

Yes, Bonnie Plant Farms has a lock on the big box market. They have contract growers and company greenhouses all over the damned place. The closest one to us, for example, is Elizabethtown, Kentucky or somewhere down around Ft. Campbell. Anyway, my suggestion is to look for Bert Hybels plants. The best of their tomatoes are packaged under the Chef Jeff Heirloom label. My experience over the past few years has been Bert Hybels plants are far healthier and stockier than the Bonnie stuff and usually sold for just a little bit less. Bert Hybels heritage tomato selection is better than Bonnie Plant Farms, in my opinion and I know they are available here and there through the Midwest particularly south of Michigan. Ask your nursery outlets to contact Bert Hybels, Inc ... www.hybels.com/hybels.php?page=chef_jeff_vegetables_4inch ... or grow your own. That's my two choices other than mail order from www.selectedplants.com/ who is the only other place I'd trust for disease free plants in excellent shape for my garden. Be aware that Bonnie Plant Farms has had some disease control issues past year or so I think in their Northeast and down in their MidSouth locations. Just sayin' ... Bill

Bill Yes, Hybels is only a few miles from my house. I always buy Chef Jeff's because my brother's name was Jeff. But now I buy them because the quality is so good.
