I was reading posts on Facebook about the crime drama Detroit 1-8-7. Someone posted about Detroit being in the Midwest. Really??
So I did a google and yep, sure enough, Michigan is considered the American Midwest. I'm blown away! I always thought of it (Detroit at least, if not all of Michigan) as being part of the Industrial Northeast.
To me, the Midwest is C&W music and stockyards, not R&B and Chrysler.
This does however, explain why Kid Rock is considered a Country Crossover Artist. And Darth, the modern American Gothic.

I resemble that remark. Rust belt. I've not heard this term before, but I love it! And we've driven through W. VA in late January while it's snowing. And stayed in some fancy hotel on the top of a mountain that had one of Ursula's cousins stuffed and on display in the lobby. :oThere's nothing 'southern' about W.Va, at least not from what we saw. Thanks Mulio for the regional map. I think I'll print it out and bring it with us on our next road trip. It will be interesting to see if folks agree with the designations. ;D

No, NO, You missed the Polar Bears to the North, the amber waves of grain in the middle and the Newfie time zone (1/2 hour difference instead of a full hour) off the east coast. That's Ca-na-da....

If you drive down the East Coast, you are in the South the minute the locals start saying 'Y'all" and grits appear on the menus.

FP, you of all people to chime in on this one. The Upstate Girl...Where is Upstate anyway, lol I've heard "upstate" only about NYS, and it's supposed to be everything except NYC and Long Island. Remy is nice, and I have to be careful, because Carolyn is also "Upstate".

We were originally the west (northwest territories OH, MI, WI, IL, IN) until someone figured out a way to get wagons across the Mississippi.

It's easier than having to stop and talk. When you see the first Waffle House sign you are in the South. ;D At least it's warmer and the fishing's better.

Well if you are in NYC or LI, everywhere is upstate. lol In my county, if you say you are headed upstate, it usually means the Adirondack areas. But parts of NJ are considered upstate. Places like Ramapo, West Milford, and Ho-Ho-Kus. If you going to the beach areas like Atlantic City or Seaside Heights, you'd say "We're headed down The Shore''.
