from a local supplier
I hate to say this, but if a local greenhouse hires teens for after school work during their busy season, there is often a BIG chance that things won't be what they are labeled. Around here the kids think it's funny to mix up the labels on things. Especially switching the hot and sweet pepper labels.
Because of that and the fact that you can't count on them to show up when you need them, i haven't hired teens in close to 10 years now. The worst are the big strong boys. Just try to get them to work on a Fri afternoon or any time on Sat. Their sports come first LOL. They will leave you hanging every time.

Way back, I ordered Sudduth seeds (along with many other varieties) from Chuck Wyatt and with my order Chuck sent some Joyce's seeds and a note to try some of each and let him know what I thought. He may have done this for everyone, but I was pleased to grow both. My notes reminded me that they were so close I could not tell them apart, but Joyce's out produced Sudduth. That was on one plant of each in one year so the comparison meant nothing. I reported this to Chuck but that was about the time he started really feeling the results of his illness and we communicated no further. That was around year 2000.
In 2004 I grew OTV Brandywine for the first time and from what my notes remind me it did OK so far as production: 30 lbs of tomatoes with an average size of 13.5 oz, the largest being 22 oz. At that time all heirlooms were still relatively new to me and I had no indicator for flavor at that time. That same year I grew Lucky Cross and got 14 tomatoes for the year at an average size of 12 oz. Again no flavor indicator and no memory for that long ago.
I did try Yellow Brandywine (Platfoot) and it was not one I would try again. There are many other yellows/golds/oranges that do better for me.
I grow Sudduth on a fairly regular basis and when it is good, it is great but in bad year the few fruits are still great. Why I never regrew Joyce's I do not remember except maybe there was so much publicity about the Sudduth strain I just went with the flow.
