Ok, you mad scientist tomato gurus, what will you be working on this year? I always like to see what is in store and what you expcet to get. Myself, I may make a couple crosses, I don't need to work much there, as I have stuff to grow from THE best. It would be nice to see if we can get another Black Heart, and perhaps a dwarf that tastes exceptional. I also would like to get a GWR heart. I will attempt this by crossing Stratcats Green bombs to Darthmater and Brad's Black heart. For those of you who have never seen strats greenbombs, i can say, it is real close to being the best colored green out there!! A nice paste type and very productive.

Probably no crosses for me this year, but I will be working on Brawny F2. This was Cuostralee X Grizzly F4 (dwarf plant). I'll be looking for that 16oz+ Cuostralee in a dwarf plant.

Aha Leftylogan. How long does it usually take for your thought processes to kick into action? LOL

I'll be growing out a lot of F2s that will yield a percentage of black hearts (Kosovo x Green Sausage), and also some green pastes (Debaro gold x Green Sausage). Flavors for the F1 were really good.

Hello, I am trying to build some populations that will segregate for flavor and color. I have some dwarf plant types, but i don't think that is what i am really looking for. I also have some determinate plant types. My flavor population is basically lemon boy, brandy boy, bolseno, sun sugar, sun gold, some stuff from wild boar farms (for crosses), plus a whole mess of other things. My plant population is merced, famous dwarf, new big dwarf, some other hybrids, bitonto. I hope i have room for it all. Jonny

Aha Leftylogan. How long does it usually take for your thought processes to kick into action? LOL It's about the same as any other 16 year olds.

I wanted many F1 so that I could get a segregating population quicker. Lemon Boy is the only yellow F1 that has worked all that well for me, even so, it isn't all that good ( i don't really like yellows). I haven't grown it in a few years. The whole mess of other things is mostly OP lines and I will cross those in, but I need another year before I get the seed out. I just started up this year, as I had been doing only melon and watermelon up to this point.

I have a lot of stuff to grow out and not much room. Hopefully, my market grower down the road and I will come to an arrangement for space. He's got 2 new hoop houses up already, and working on more. He also would give me at least one long row ... really long.
For sure: Green Giant x Kozula #139, and WildThyme GWR F3 x Kozula #139.
I have some other thoughts, like (Mozark x Sioux)F1 x Traveler, or x Pearson, but haven't really thought it all through just yet.
More later ...

For sure: Green Giant x Kozula #139,..... I have some other thoughts, like (Mozark x Sioux)F1 x Traveler, Ha! I had those exact same crosses on my list. ;D I guess I will punt...back to my original plan...sort of. 3 areas of interest. 1. Heat tolerant types in the 8oz or larger size. 2. gf, gs, Aft, and ogc hearts 3. Long term developement of unique selfing lines for small batch hybrids.

You will find that much of it will be determined by factors beyond your control. Things like which plants are blossoming when, how high the humidity is on a certain day, is it raining, do you have free time, etc. One of the things I've found that helps with the former is planting more than 1 plant of the varieties you plan to use as parents. This way it increases the chances that there will be blossoms in the right stage for either emasculation or pollen collection.
