Hello Fellow Gardeners,
My name is Terry and I live in Kalamazoo, Michigan. I am very intrigued with this forum and came here mainly as a student, willing to learn all the aspects of tomato husbandry [if I may use those words].
What drew me here or rather who drew me here, were blanesgarden & Darth Slater. These guys were the magnets for drawing me here. I could not help myself. They filled my head with ideas of grandeur, of creating new varieties of tomatoes of ... well, you get the idea, I am hooked! I am excited to be here. I expect this year will be filled with basics and just sitting back and learning from you all. While I have been gardening all my life, I feel the need to start from scratch and learn the proper way to grow tomatoes.

Welcome Terry, This isn't the first time someone has been addicted to Heirloom Tomatoes or OP crosses. It can get worse, and then you will be looking at the neighbors "Unused space" and going Hmmmmm...... Don't forget to check out the Tomato Show, its in tomato disscussion. Caution: Big Napkin advised, Drool factor in play!!

Welcome Jerry! You have to dry out the seeds for several months before planting them. It is best to just buy seeds. We have had the best tomatoes by planting them on the north side of our house. They get the morning to midday sun then get hot afternoon shade.

Caution: Big Napkin advised, Drool factor in play!! Thank you all for the welcome. While May 15th is our last frost date I had planned on starting seeds on March 15th or round about that time, maybe March 1st: but since I have got mater fever I am going to start some seeds tomorrow. I don't care how big they get! I was thinking about Cosmonaut Volkov; a very intriguing tomato in name alone. Does anyone here have experience with this tomato? And of course the Riesentraube because I am hungry for eating some cherry/grape off the vine as soon as possible. And....?

Don't grow tomatoes because of the name. SO many people do that. There are many cherry types that are way better then Riesentraube. Black cherry, sungold, sunsugar, gardeners delight....
