Summerhawk, you’re not too far from me. I'm in Virginia Beach. Very Cool I used to be stationed at NAS Oceana when I was in the Navy... (That over 10 years ago:)) We go across the bay into Virginia Beach every couple of weeks or so... My daughter loves the Virginia Beach Marine Science Museum. There is a mom and pops joint called Rick's Cafe (Corner of First Colonial and Va Beach Blvd.) that we like to go to every once in a while... We found a good sushi place over there too! (Yama, on General Booth) I would love to own a nice piece of land anywhere in the South Beach areas that are nice not too far from Red Mill / Sandbridge area... (but everything over there is $$$ haha) We have a nice place out here on the shore. It is very beautiful here. This is one of the only places on the Atlantic Coast that is still in somewhat of a pristine condition. It is awesome to take the boat out to the barrier islands! Imagine having a natural beach all to yourself with no tourists or buildings! You find lots of cool stuff washed up in the sand. Let me know what some of your favorite stuff is... I will do the same... You can PM me... so we do not get too far of topic with this thread:) It is nice when you meet people that garden in your area to share experiences of what works and what seems not to work. Another TTG member, duhvinci, is from Virginia also... I am not sure of what part of Va... Nice to meet you! Welcome to TTG ;D

I have tried several types of cucumbers and find ( at least the ones I have tried) that they tend to get bitter about mid way through the season. I have found the the Lemon cucumber, never gets bitter! and is and always will be, my main stay! Other cucumbers have there purpose, like fore pickling, but the Lemon is the only way to go for salads and fresh eating.

Iznik is my absolute favorite. A bit pricey, but very productive and good tasting and no need for pollination. For me was a bit more productive than Diva.

I prefer Amira, but a friend sent me Kyoto Yard Long seeds to try this year. Great germination and the plants are growing like gangbusters. I have high hopes the this years cucumber crop.

Ciao Wendy-
That sounds like a fun one to try. Are you planning to use them for fresh eating or pickling/relish or both?

Probably both Sorellina. I have to get them to grow first, hahaha. Haven't had much luck myself with long varieties like Armenian Yardlong. Higher hopes for the Kyoto
