This weeks pick is a giant red tomato I just acquired this year, sometimes I like to grow bigger tomatoes for Bacon Sandwiches.......I think I hear Rich coming... Anyway, this is supposed to be a real whopper and I am looking forward to growing it.

Shouldn't it be spelled Gildo PIETROBONI? I got my seeds from Grunt and that's how it was spelled on the package I'm growing it this year too, and I can't wait!!!!

WOW! You've got my attention! That's a whopper! Looks very tasty! "Got to love it when the tomato slice is bigger than the piece of bread!"

Shouldn't it be spelled Gildo PIETROBONI? You'll have to excuse Darth. He is spelling challenged. ;D

I just planted some seeds of this one. Looking forward to it.
Does anyone have the background of this one to share?

I would also like to know more about this one. Where is it from?

Info was as scarce as the seeds. I think there is a story of an old italian guy that gave seeds to? Being Italian myself I have never hear a name like that, unless it is mixed up in translation.

This is where it all started. David Lemasters who posts as "DWLCRL". He shared the seeds he mentioned in the below post with myself and others and I believe Dan was also one who received seed as well. Ami ok how do i start this one....
i just received a letter in yesterday that reads....
lets see where did it go...
apparently i talked to someone ...
ok i opened it and there is one packet of seeds and it reads..
mr lemasters
i had met you at the festival in scottdale. i am enclosing the seeds that we had discussed. these seeds came for a three pounde oxheart tomato but the tomato resembled a paste tomato. they were originally brought back from italy sixty years ago by a gentleman named guildo pietroboni, who has been deceased now for fifteen years. i aquired the tomato seeds from a freind of mr pietroboni's son. good luck wih the seeds. see you at the next festival. very truly yours
ferp necciai
what or how would you name this seed because the package is blank...
guildo pietroboni's heritage seeds?
wow a long name... would this be a correct way or renameing a variety that who knows if it has ever been crossed or closely monitored. which is about true with alot of varieties.. so....
has anyone grew any that closely resembles these? from italy? and what do i name them?

Yeah, I heard that story, too. And some nice person from across the pond sent me seeds. The funny thing is, I found out that DWLCRL is practically my neighbor! AND Darth, I live only about 15 miles from Scottdale, PA. I forgot to start the seeds, OMG I better find one more space to plant!!
