Any one try tepary beans? I have a couple strains going that I got from Native Seed Search here in Tucson. They are supposed to need very little water or they will be all vine and no beans... I planted them along a fence at the edge of the yard just out of range of the irrigation ... I at least wanted to get a crop large enough to taste..... LOL. Some of the Indians in Mexico plant them with the coming of monsoons in the summer and leave them till mature in their arid farming area. Most beans grow well here, but without irrigation they dry up and blow away within a week.

I have not, though I am trying Purple Hyacinth this year- they are supposed to be really drought resistant and good for our climate.

Good luck with the hyacinth.. I love those blooms, but have never tried it.. I always thought it was too hot here, but now that I am a bit higher and cooler than the Tuscon basin I might consider trying if you have some luck with it... please keep us updated... thanks john I lived by orange grove for about 25years then moved to oro valley for 6 years then east of Catalina now for the last few years and this location is definitely later last frost and earlier first frost.. we had the faucet at the horse trough freeze and burst this year.. never had an outside faucet freeze here and burst before in all these years...
