when starting seedlings under grow lights in the basement should I leave the heating mats on after the seeds have sprouted and the plastic cover is removed .?

No. Not unless the basement is too cool for growth. If that's the case, I'd just put a light bulb under the seed starting shelves.

my basement is cool 55ish and my mat has a thermostat. i've never had happier pepper seedlings. leave the mat on for chilis. not necessary for tomatoes imo. be prepared to water more frequently.
