Red, ind, PL with fruit up to 700 grams. Dates back to 1885 and originally came from Michigan according to Vent Marin. Most of the information comes from European sites. Due to weather problems had a late plant out and am just in the last 2 weeks starting to harvest fruit. This is the only one to ripen so far with many greens still on the plant in the 1lb range. Old fashioned tomato flavor pretty much tells it like it is. Put a slice of Bilders on a BLT and you got the real deal died and gone to heaven BLT. Ami Attachments:

Hello Ami,
Bilders is one of my favorite "oldies". If you can spare about 15-20 seeds I would appreciate it as my stock is down to 3 8 year old seeds. Thanks in advance.

Ami,
Found this additional info on Bilder in the 2004 SSE Yearbook, p 315, SSE Yearbook2001, p. 348 Bilder----80 days, indet, 60" long vines, potato leaf, red-pink fruit, meaty with an excellent sweet flavor, from WI ER B 01, a 120 year old variety from Dick Deason of MI via his neighbor, Jack Bilder, origin southeast asia,. If I could grow only one variety of tomati this would be it. , picked 75 lbs from 4 plants and 25 lbs still on plants when frost hit, seed from Dick Deason in 1989, had been in his family 104 years in 1989, Mr Deason died in1995

Bill, thanks for the additional info. I saved it to my documents. Al Anderson is the only one listing it in the 2010 SSE yearbook and has it as an regular leaf and a European Variety. It's obvious Al does NOT have the real deal. I can believe the 75 lbs from 4 plants as my plant has several lunkers on it still green. I will grow again next year and see whats happens when we have good weather to work with as this year is the worst I've seen for tomato growing in many years. Ami

I've seen it spelled both ways. Luc Fichot site and Tomaten-Atlas sites have it Bilders. Ventmarin and Spuds reference to the SSE listing have it Bilder. Ami

Carolyn is engrossed in the Australian Open tennis tournament. You'd be lucky to get a peep out of her during the tennis. ;D
