Not sure if anybody has done this before, so I made an attempt at it back in the summer, managed to get some seed, and here is the F1 growout so far. One thing I did notice, its PL, just like both the parents, however the leaves are more of a lighter green, and a little smaller too. Hoping the temperatures will hold up, a bit longer, but its looks like Ill be dragging this 27 gallon planter into the greenhouse anyway. Notice the ribing on the shoulders?....This was the trait I was looking for. As for more fruit production.... Hard to say just yet, but it is loaded with blooms, so the potential is there.

Interesting cross, I've thought of crossing CG with Zogola to boost size.
Costoluto Genovese is Regular Leaf AFAIK.

Interesting cross, I've thought of crossing CG with Zogola to boost size. Costoluto Genovese is Regular Leaf AFAIK. So true that ALL of the different Costolutos are RL. So I'm not sure what I'm seeing Blane since RL is dominant to PL so if the cross did take the F1's should be RL. I can't see the foliage all that well but if you say it's PL, well, that means the seed for that plant you show was not an F1 seed. Carolyn

Your right, I stand corrected, RL on the CG.....so this plant is PL, are saying my cross did not take?

Your right, I stand corrected, RL on the CG.....so this plant is PL, are saying my cross did not take? Right, the cross didn't take in terms of the seed that gave rise to that plant and that's b'c RL X PL will give RL as the F1. However, not all seeds in a fruit that's the result of cross pollination are always hybrid seeds. If fertilization of ALL the ovules in the tomato ovary is not complete there can be ovules that can still be fertilized by self fertilization, or cross pollination as far as that goes. Did you remove the whole corolla when doing the cross or did you dab some pollen on the stigma of the female plant, which I assume was the Brandywine since then if self pollenization occured you could well get PL plants and so what you show is probably Cowlick's Brandywine. ok....since this is kinda bothering me now....Look at the 2 plants side by side. Cowlick onthe right, darker bigger leaves The cross is on the left....you can clearly see a difference in the two....feed them same, watered the same..etc...

I thought we discussed this issue this past summer and Blane said both his Costoluto parent and the Brandywine parent were potato leaf (PL).
It also would be helpful if everyone would list both parents of any cross in the following order: Seed Mother x Pollen Donor. This would help when others make comments regarding what you should expect to see expressed as dominant in the F2.
It also would be helpful to let people know what filial generation we are viewing as with this or the other tomato, whichever one is F2 or F3, or whatever the case may be.
By the way, the leaf size and shap on the Cowlicks is awesome!

ok Pap. Your right, I didnt mention the order...
I pollinated the Cowlick (female) with CG (male)......and it wasnt easy..... But I did use your Sunglass trick....you know, with an old lense? I could clearly see the tiny particles of pollin this way...... But I think Im good on this one.....In fact I found one fruit just starting to show a bit of coloring..... too be cont...
