This weeks pic is a tomato by one of our own, The legendary Spudleaf Willie {Bill Malin}. It is a cross between German Red Strawberry and an unknown yellow. I grew this one and didn't get pics, but it was one of the best yellows have tried to date. All though it is more of a blunt shape than a heart. It produces some very large tomatoes. Very tasty, and has some flavor to it unlike a lot of other yellow tomatoes. I know Pap has grown this one and can maybe provide more info and pics.

The vine I grew this year for Spuds's seed increase was very robust, but more or less terminated at about 5 or 5-1/2 feet and put on a fairly concentrated set of many large to massive fruit. An exceptional plant. I don't think it was determinate, but it acted kind of like it. I'll check closer next time I grow it. Anyway, I sent Dean a lot of seed for this one, and I held back an equal amount.

I got the seed from Earl's round robin. I am really looking forward to it. We love yellow maters. I am going to grow the KBX, Gary's Gold, Gold Medal, and this one.

KBX is another great one if you have a late season climate.

I haven't tried KBX yet. I think I have a late season climate. I'm in East TN and most folks who took care of the maters have been enjoying them up until 2 weeks ago. Unfortnately, I didn't take care of mine and they died around the 2nd week of Aug.

I got a good harvest from KBX in Connecticut. Michelle should not have any trouble with it. You might try Aunt Gerties Gold(aka Yellow Brandywine...aka Elbe... ) also. However...this is a spudayellow strawberry thread... so back on topic..

I have seeds for Aunt Gertie's Gold and Yellow Brandywine but not Elbe, and I didn't know they are supposed to be identical.

Gunnar, I've grown all three and for what it's worth. ahem, I don't consider them to be identical. And as I mentioened elsewhere here, being the so called mom of German Red Strawberry ( seeds from Majorie Morris of IND who had sent them to SSE with no response back then sent them to me to grow out and SSE list)I'd really like to grow this one if someone could please send me some seeds. Since Craig LeHoullier now grows all my plants for me and ships them up to me and it may be that someone else does seed production, either Shoe or Lee in NC, or another person from CO who also volunteered, I'd need at least 10 fresh seeds, or so if possible. Also Spud's if I recall correctly. Although I haven't grown Elbe, this past year I grew AGG and YB very close to each other from two different seed sources and they were almost totally identical in fruit size, shape, yield, plant size, growth habit, leaf shape, etc, etc. But this is a topic for another thread. (sorry darth)
