In a recent thread started by Darth, Spudatula was presented, and Michael Andersson sells a "Black Potato Leaf", which was found among Black Krim (no further explanation). Some Russian varieties are potato-leaved in the first place: Japanese Truffle (Trifele) Black and Chernomor/Black Sea Man. It is more or less well known, that Spudakee and Cherokee Purple Potato Leaf are similar to Cherokee Purple, but there seems to be no Potato Leaf version publicly available of Cherokee Choolate or Indian Stripe, although a cross with Spudakee sounds logical. Apparently there has been no attempt to create a potato-leaved Paul Robeson/Robson Angolan. There are at least two different Black Brandywines around, one is the True Black Brandywine created by WWW.

The one I've been working with is Big Cheef, now at F6, a potato leaf maroon beefsteak from a mystery cross of Brandywine Sudduth sent to me as F2 seeds by Ricky from Murfreesboro, TN. Big Cheef is a very adaptable vine that sets lots of delicious fruit. All I know about the mystery parent is that it was a regular leaf type, and I had to select out the potato leaf, dark fruit type.
With regard to a potato leaf Indian Stripe, I have one currently at F3, resulting from an accidental cross of Indian Stripe and I believe Daniels tomato. Susan Anderson also had an F2, potato leaf, purple segregation pop up from seeds I sent to her. These are boat shaped, dense meated and delicious.
And of course there's Gary'O Sena, a stable cross of Brandywine x Cherokee Purple from Keith Mueller.

I think hers were regular leaf. I also am a bit befuddled about her "heart" shaped Indian Stripe as the seeds look vestigal to me. So, I'm thinking something about PNW climate-induced shape, etc. pv

I'll keep it updated here at TTG. And Paps is right on with that Big Cheef, I'll be growing it again next year.

Oh, there was one other one I grew in 2009, but did not repeat in 2010 simply because it was not as tolerant of the heat as Big Chief, and that's PPPxPP "C" which produced very well until the vine suffered heat stroke ... not the flowers, but the vine itself. Those were nice tomatoes and tasty, too. A bit more lumpy than Big Chief.

I grew a Beduin x PPP x PP "C" F1 last year that was dark and PL from both parents. Impressive taste and a healthier and more compact vine than the PPP parent. F2s go out this summer. I second PV's recommendation of Big Cheef and GOS.
I can't wait for that and all the others this year Mark..Brilliant!! Also. I know you have these on FB, could you please post all of your crosses here?

Kozula sent me a couple of seed for five Black Pear crosses: Black Pear x Big Zebra, Black Pear x Copia, Black Pear x Orange Strawberry, Black Pear x (flat pink), Black Pear x #36 (round pink). If I get potato leaved tomatoes in F2 or F3, I'll send seed to Darth, and I assume they will be available to Spudleafwillie as well. According to most information in Tatiana's Tomatobase, Black Pear is brick-red/brown, which I assume to imply the epidermis is yellow, and better tasting than Japanese Truffle.
