I have Cowlick's, Sudduth's and "red". I am not sure which red it is. I got it in trade from Treeguy. Anyway, what is the difference between Cowlick's and Sudduth's? In my poor tomato year last season I couldn't tell a difference really. both were large and pink.
I wouldn't mind hearing some hard facts too on all the brandywine strains.

I grew two plants of each last year. Only difference for me was Cowlick's were just a tad smaller fruit than Sudduth. But we are talking maybe an ounce. No big deal. Both are great varieties IMO. I have many years of experience with Sudduth but only the one with Cowlicks. [/img]

I've only grown bw sudduths which is in my top 3 favorites. Flavor is superb. High heat and humidity kills its ability to set fruit, however in my climate it sets dozens of fruit before the hot summer weather here.

I have grown several and believe there are minute differences in most of them. However, I get very poor production form almost all of them, except for Marianna's Peace, which I consider a Brandywine type. The rest seem to result in large, beefsteak, pink (of slightly varying tones) tomatoes. I will add that Sudduth's tastes terrible in my garden and is a 'no go' now.

bump anyone else with Brandywine info? What is the difference between the different 'reds' and what is the difference between sudduth's and cowlick's. I started 3 sudduth's the other day and 2 red, but didn't start the cowlicks.

Lets do both this season, littleminnie Side by side..

I've grown Brandywine Pink and Cowlick's and can only compare these two. Pink has bigger fruits and rippens later, but tastes great. Cowlick is way more productive and very early and the taste is great, but not as good as Pink. Very disease resistant too...

I am not big on Brandywine, but the best one I have eaten so far is Sudduths. Only because they don't produce alot, and that all depends on the weather here. They grow good here, but I think Stump of the world is a better tomato, here at least. Liz Birt has the flavor of Brandywine and great production. And I will plant these instead.

For me last year Cowlick's was slightly more productive (I had good production from the sudduths though), and the flavor, although similar/same was more out front. The flavor filled your mouth soon after it was in your mouth, where as the Sudduth flavor took a couple of seconds to hit full stride.

Minnie, when I grew in a marginal area (NH) some cultivars of brandywine were underperformers. Only save seed from the B-wine that gets up and runs for you...
