Hello,
I am a gardener who lives in North Texas. I grow a wide variety of vegetables in my garden, but my passion is tomatoes. I have only become interested in heirloom or open pollination varieties in the last couple of years. I also am planting my first grown from seed garden this year. My tomatoes started germinating on January 2 and will be planted out on March 1. I look forward to learning from other gardeners with the same interests.

Welcome Ted. We are in the same zone so it will be nice share notes. March 1st? I've never planted that early. In fact that is about 5 weeks earlier than I ever have. How do you do that? What happens if we get one of those mid March ice storms? Perhaps a post in the tomato discussion section?

Welcome aboard Ted....and like Hillbilly mentioned, show us how you get plants in by March 1st.... Thats even too early for me...curious.. I planted out on April 1 last year and it was about one month too late. The high heat hit early and I hardly got any blooms set. It was a wasted year. I'm watching the long range weather and taking a big chance, but I will be protecting them after they are planted out with clear plastic and row cover over the tops. My only concern is the fact that we will spend the second week of March in Arkansas riding four wheelers. If it freezes while I'm in Arkansas, I'll just replant with purchased plants. Ted
