Thanks for the offer on the seed, but I think I am going to buy a plant this year instead of waiting until next. Not a bad idea. I won't be without green giant again. I have side-by-side compared it to cherokee green the last couple years and I am now giving it the edge for flavor. You can likely pick up the plants here... www.selectedplants.com/but I think you may already know that.

Another item of note for Green Giant.... it makes one excellent crossing partner, if you're looking to add flavor. Just about all of the stabilized dwarfs that came out of the (Sneezy F1) = Golden Dwarf Champion x Green Giant line have excellent flavor. One example is Summertime Gold. In that one, we took GDC's color and dwarf habitat and combined it with GG's leaf type, size, and taste.... (also note the pink blush from GG) Yummmo! Lee

I don't understand why anyone would be banned from any gardening site that were just helping others with gardening info or asking gardening questions.
That Summertime Gold looks pretty good

Green Giant must be more susceptible to outcrossing. I had one RL seedling show up in about a dozen sowed seed of it.

Green Giant must be more susceptible to outcrossing. I had one RL seedling show up in about a dozen sowed seed of it. Not sure about outcrossing yet. I'll let you know when my seedlings all have true leaves. This is the first time I've regrown Green Giant from saved seeds. So far, all the plants I've grown from Tomato Growers Supply seeds have been potato leaf and green when ripe fruit. But yes, I suspect Green Giant is susceptible to outcrossing as it has been the easiest seed mother I've used thus far in making crosses. It has a record here of taking a good cross 3 out of 4 attempts, and produces gobs of F1 seeds when it takes. I agree with Lee on Green Giant's propensity to throw well-flavored F1s and subsequent segregations. I've grown several of the Dwarf Project crosses, and the only ones that gave remarkable flavor, in my opinion, have been the Sneezy line segregants. So far I've tried both regular rugose and potato leaf rugose of the Sneezy F4s, F5s, F6s, and of the stable vars. Summer Sunrise, Summertime Gold, Summertime Green, and Dwarf Emerald Giant, all of which were as good as any yellows I've grown, while the green when ripes were as good as Cherokee Green or Green Giant. This year I bought Dwarf Mr. Snow and Dwarf Beryl Beauty from Victory Seeds (yes Darth, I'm mailing your share today), and look forward to enjoying them as much as I did the rest of the Sneezy line. Green Giant is a great gf, green when ripe, potato leaf tomato, and should be used in many more crosses. I hope to get a GG x Kozula #139 this year.

Just checked. Six of 8 seeds planted for Green Giant are up, and all 6 show potato leaf at this time. Not a large enough population of seedlings to render a finding on "susceptibility to outcrossing." I'll plant a larger population of seeds some time, like a 100-seed germination test, and get a better looksee.

Hey look, let me say up front to everybody: DISCLAIMER: I save seeds from unbagged blossoms. Grow at your own risk. Oh, and learn to discern, cull and burn. Inspect, detect, cull and reject. Etc.

Lee thanks for the info. That's good to know. After hearing that I am hoping that what I am growing is an F1 from Green Giant.
