I will ad photos to this thread later this spring. However, here is a photo courtesy of AVRDC.org that shows a blossom truss with a few at various stages. The one he is holding with tweezers and the one in the back at 11 o'clock are at an ideal stage to emasculate. However, the one at 8 o'clock could use another 12-24 hours. Personally, I usually wait for the sepals to open halfway or so and before the the petals open at all.

Good pictures but...........What's this, a multiple choice test? I know which ones I would castrate, but beginners seeking information will be a little confused; maybe you could photoshop a ring around the candidates for informational purposes? I guess the best subjects are in the centre of both pictures but it would still look confusing to someone who does not know what they are looking for.
(Not a criticism, just pointing something out....)

I have to agree with maf, the second post in particular needs some comments or arrows/circles or such. I'm thinking the first pic of post 2 has one bud dead-center that's near ready while the others are past being useful, and the second pic has 3 to the left side ready while to the right they're past being optimum. I'm still basically a novice.

I will let mule do the honors of PSing the photos. I try not to emasculate blossoms that will hang below ones that will be shedding pollen. If I need to I will remove those so they don't shed over my freshly cut blossoms. As far as the top truss, I agree the center bud needs another day or so to be ideal, but I would take a chance with the one at 8 o'clock even though it may be a day or so past prime. Depends on how hard up I am at the time. Second truss has many that could be done.
