When my aunt came up last week the one mater that she really liked was those maters that you put in/eat with salads. I do not think I have any of those so could all of you recommend some good-n-tasty saladette/salad maters?

I did get 4 Purple Haze plants from D.J. ... planted one a couple of days ago [here in town]. Maybe I will give one to my aunt and save the other two for the main garden at the farm. I'll put the others on my wish list.

I have grown Jolly f1 for many years. It seems to ripen very slowly. In other words, if you harvest and eat it as soon as it turns pink, the flavor is nothing special, but if you let it ripen fully, under ideal condtions it's flavor is dramatically better. Perhaps that leads it to being under appreciated. Most tomatoes are probably like that, but Jolly will hang on the vine without deteriorating much longer than most.

Other than those, I don't grow many saladettes as I don't see much use for them. I'd rather use cherry tomatoes for salads.

thanks for the great site Darth, helps to share our finds, I did not grow the Amish Salads this year for other reasons....but they are a sweet yummy loaded plant...it is #1 for me in salads and Lucky Leprechaun is for an indoor plant.

I am partial to tigerella, the greenhouse variety from England. It is very pretty, yellow stripes on red, and has what is, to me, a clean, tangy flavor. I gather some find it too acid. It was wonderfully productive for me in CA, even in triple digit heat.
