I love that Mulio .....i'd like to plant some things in my front yard, but my worry is that i live on a busy street with 2 schools, that it would be a huge temptation, and stuff would be gone . Heck, i even have issues with my neighbors on one side, who last summer, reached over the fence and picked some peppers, out of my raised flower box, and then claimed they knew nothing about it , when it could have only been them .........sooooooooo this year, i am planting all of my Bhuts next to the fence ......have at'er Penny, I love the way you think, iffen they ain't pepper heads, they are sure to be surprised. ROTFLMAO! Burn baby, burn.

Stratcat, where are you? If our overly anal-retentive neighbour saw our yard looking like that, he'd have us locked up by the city. You're not allowed to have free spirit yards in Canada. Hi, Sorellina. I'm causing trouble over here in Mid-Michigan. I have more than one of those neighbors. I've gotten in trouble for my lawn not being mowed when it was. I got away with a 5'9" Queen Anne's Lace out back in 2005. Here's 7 October, 2009 shot- john

Ciao all- Here are a couple things I have put in the front yard, much to the chagrin of MY silly neighbour: Japonica Striped Maize - this does make kernals and I suppose I could use them to make flour, but I was so excited about this thing that I dried the cobs and took the kernals off to distribute them to friends who thought it was just the most amazing thing. Florence Fennel - this came with the house and had naturalized. I've never been successful at getting Florence Fennel to bulb the way it's supposed to. I leave it because it's not only a great host plant for Black Swallowtail Caterpillers, the fronds and tender stems are quite tasty in salads, like celery with a hint of licorice. I also put the plentiful seeds in with sausage and other meats. I grew both the Japonica out front and some Hopi Blue Corn in back so when those had finished, I pulled the stalks and tied them to the pear tree out front for Halloween spookiness.

Great pics All! My son & his g/f just bought a place in an area with several front yard gardens; Google Earth showed them when we looked up street views. I can't wait to see the street in summer.

Is it really against the law to grow food stuff in your front yard in Canada? I guess it makes for a neat and tidy place.
I would love to see more pictures. I'm going to mix vege plants in with my other plants this year.

No, you can grow food in your front lawn , and while i like Strats lawn ;D, that wouldnt fly up here, they would consider that "weeds" and it would be cut down and then the bill would be charged to your taxes ......they are really strict up here when it comes to appearances to your house.

It depends on the municipality of course, but also on your neighbours. There are some 'interesting' lawns in the area where I live, but I haven't heard any complaints about them. One house has old tires with trees planted in them all the way around their front lawn. I think it looks tacky, but there are a lot of creative people in this neighbourhood and for the most part, they just accept different landscape styles.
