Hello everyone I am fairly new to gardening. Last year was my first real garden, and found to my surprise that I absolutely loved it! I have always loved tomatoes, and nothing beats them fresh out of the garden. Last year I only had 3 tomato plants, this year I am going to be up to 22. Expanded the garden quite a bit to make room for my tomato and pepper plants. I also found out that I enjoy making salsa, and have some very good recipes. Been on Idig for a while, but I found that there just isn't enough tomato talk to keep me satisfied, so here I am.

Hmm, I don't think I could pick a favorite yet, I haven't eaten near enough heirloom/op varieties to declare a favorite. However, for the pink tomatoes I absolutely loved the flavor of the Grace Lahman variety, and for greens the Malachite (Malakhitovaya Shkatulka) was fantastic. Can't wait to try all of the varieties I am growing this year (18 new ones I think).

Hi poy! I love making salsa too, I hope you'll post recipes. And if you haven't tried 'em yet, tomatoillos are super easy to grow and make a great salsa. Glad to have you here.

Well I just learned something from this thread. I didn't realize that northern states like Minnesota and Illinois were actually considered part of the American MidWest. Not sure what I thought they would be classed as geographically? NorthCentral as opposed to N.E. or N.W.
