The Goldkrone looks interesting. How does it taste? Goldkrone (it is spelled with an umlaut over the second O) was a variety I found in a hardware store, the seeds were from a Polish producer, and as far as I could figure, it was supposed to be a hybrid. But it tasted really good (sweet with just the right amount of acid and very juicy) so I saved the seeds and it came out true the next year. The third year I grew it from my saved seed I noticed it didn't produce as much as it did the first year, so I guess it really is a hybrid. I stopped saving seeds...

nolika, Those are some gorgeous tomatoes and great photos. The Shuntukskij Velikan may be one of the most beautiful tomatoes I've seen. I think it is interesting that you shot it in the same frame as the Reisetomate which is one of the ugliest tomatoes I've seen. It would take me all day to determine one to start slicing the Reisetomate. Was the Shuntukskij Velikan originally a commercial variety? Ted I'm not sure if Shuntukskij Velikan was a commercial variety, but Tatiana has a good history on it on her site: t.tatianastomatobase.com:88/wiki/Shuntukski_VelikanIt is a great looking tomato, that shines like red gold in the sun. And for me, Reisetomate is one of the strangest tomatoes I've ever seen in my life, but I wouldn't call it ugly. I think it is actually very beautiful, it looks almost like a flower with thick petals. I don't cut this tomato, just tear the pieces apart, and that is the way it is eaten, like a cherry tomato. Well, it actually is a cherry tomato, it just has all the little tomatoes fused together. I'll try to find more pics and post them later...

Ok, found some more pics of Reisetomate (also called Voyage, Travel and Pocketbook Vine Tomato). Here are unripe fruits: Isn't this a beautiful 'flower'? And these are the little chunks (separated cherry fruits) you pop into your mouth: The smaller pieces are not very tasty, as they don't have much gel (that's where the taste is), but the larger ones, those that are more like cherry tomatoes, taste great!

Bammer, you put 20-30 seeds to a cell, why not just use a drill tray? Or is it easier to put them in the cell? Interesting way of doing it - Prolly easier too.

I occasionally do bulk starts that way too = easier to keep varieties separate by tagging each cell.

Nolika,
They have my sincere apologies. They are quite beautiful. Some things just have to be viewed from the proper angle to see the beauty. I had always thought they were just a tomato covered with warts. I didn't know they were a collection of little jewels.

Nolika, I can't get them planted this year because all my seedlings will be planted this week. I might like to try them next year. I'll post a list of my trade seed soon and let you select a trade for a few of your seed. Ted

You can send me a PM after you are done with your list, and I have to update mine too (I haven't done that for weeks), and then we can do some trading

It will be a long wait... Nilika, I also do a lot of photography and will be posting as my garden grows. The basket full of tomatoes is a very good photo. Colors are clear, accurate, and balanced. I'm curious which camera, lens, and filter you used. Ted
