Hi all,
I am both a newbie gardener, and was also recently made the "toolmaster" of my small community garden in Los Angeles. I was asked to investigate leaf shredders/chippers and was hoping to get any advice from those who've used them.
To be clear, out in So Cal we don't have a big leaf fall like many parts of the world. We want something to be able to shred pretty much any used up plants, small twigs and limbs, and stuff that is bulkier than mere leaves. We expect to make mulch out of it all rather than just throw out so much green waste.
So, I'm hoping to get input from anyone who might be experienced.
-Electric leaf shredders: these seem too lightweight for the job. Am I right?
-Gas operated shredder/chippers: are these things just too darned loud, noisy and fume-spewing?
What do you have in your hard that you would recommend?
Thank you.
