I've only grown Green Giant once, in 2008, to cross it with other tomatoes.
Green Giant is a robust, potato leaf vine with, for me, moderate production of large, smooth, heavy tomatoes. Beefsteak shapes and meaty interior. Most fruit was smooth with slightly ruffled shoulders and pretty much blemish free and crack free.
Problem with Green Giant, it's so clear green that you cannot tell when it is ripe unless you feel the fruit. Several tomatoes rotted on the vine because I failed to recognize they were ripe until they were dead ripe or past. There is no visual evidence of "breaker" stage with Green Giant ... at least not that I could detect.
Also, they do not hold well even when you pick them a day or so before fully vine ripe. Seems like you just about have to pick and eat them within 24 hours and then just a bit less than full ripe. No matter, they're delicious even when not dead ripe.
Green Giant blossoms are easy to emasculate and cross. Seem to take pollen readily too since I got 75% takes if I'm remembering right. And yielded a lot of F1 seeds.

Green Giant x Yellow Submarine.
I should've picked something with more intense flavor. The result is a zinging, light gold ping pong but no real depth of flavor. Some of the F3s have clear skin. No elongated plum or pear shapes yet and no green when ripe yet either. The rest will be covered in Breeding forum this summer.

GG is one of the better GWRs for taste. Not very productive and pretty late.

I can support PV's comments.
I had a single vine of Green Giant growing a couple of seasons ago. Every single one rotten on the vine before reaching the ripe stage. Just when I thought they would be ready to pick in a couple of days' time I returned to find a rotten mess. So, in respect of Green Giant, I'm still dreeming of my first encounter! ;D

Grew GG in 2006. Had to stay on top of the picking because they did indeed rot fast! Definitely had to feel them for ripeness. Tasted real good.
