We are trying to determine what it is you need to see in the question for the breeders thread, any ideas are welcome. We don't know if you don't ask. Ok, you seem to be haveing trouble with the poll, For the first response how many are finding the questions for the breeders thread helpful? Use this as the base and finish the poll.

I cannot vote as I am fine with the discussion so far. I will say, I cannot wait until we start seeing some of the actual crosses being shown in fruit form.

Indeed frogs. This is my first year growing out my own crosses, so they will all be F1s for now. However, I can live vicariously through others as I have a few F2 and subsequent generations of crosses shared with me through them. Regarding the poll and topic though, I think I would have re-phrased the question to ask whether or not anything that has been discussed here will likely result in anyone who hasn't tried it before attempting some of their own.

Okay on the poll... e all of the above. I don't know enough about breeding tomatoes to even have a question! It is like taking a test, but having to ask the questions, before you have heard the lecture! If I do decide to attempt breeding tomatoes, I will use the wonderful link that one of you gave to me. The poll was based on the assumption that everyone was following all that is in the "questions for the breeders" thread as a collective guideline. Which also includes links to hands on techniques. This info helps us tell if any are actually going to try to breed their own tomatoes, with knowledge collected at this forum. So, I guess you have to pay attention to the whole thread and all the posts made previously.

Darth, do you feel that the conversations have been too complicated? I admit that I have no interest in crossing and creating my own tomato, but, I am fascinated by the genetics of breeding. I think most folks who are crossing tomatoes are not trying to engineer a tomato from specific traits using genetic 'premonition' to guide their efforts. In fact, I am of the belief that many of the most popular tomatoes today are the products of accidental crosses to begin with.

I would not have time to do it right now but sometime in the future would it be helpful if I wrote up some of the practical methods one could use to develop lines? I dont mean how to make a cross. I think people are more curious about how the breeding is actually done and perhaps a simplified explanation of what happens when 2 different colors are crossed.
