www.durgan.org/URL/?ZELNG 21 August 2009 How a Potato Plant Grows Potato growing test box was opened today. The pictures literally speak for themselves. Clearly there is no advantage in carrying out excessive hilling when growing potatoes. The purpose of hlling is to insure the tubers are covered. For comparison one Pontiac Red was dug in the same row, which was almost identical to the test box potato in appearance.

Haha, love the crow at the end of the pictures I never really saw what potatoes looked like when they were grown. I guess I didn't expect that many potatoes from a single plant. Might have to try and squeeze some in next year.

Might have to try and squeeze some in next year. There are many sites on the internet propagating the view that potatoes grow along the stems similar to how tomatoes grow. From childhood I knew this to be nonsense, so grew in the test box to settle the issue once and for all. Even with the proof staring them in the face, some people still hold the view about growing from branches along the stem. So much for growing in tires and high hilling. Much work to no meaningful end.

I did see someone's link over on Idig to someone who tested 4 different varieties of potatoes in a box like you did. One of the 4 varieties grew out like you mentioned, they had potatoes as far as 18 inches up. That was the only one that did though, I wonder if only certain varieties will grow like that.

I saw the same post. It was so convoluted that one had to be in the CIA to draw the conclusions propagated. My grow pictures are positive, and proof until somebody gets off their butt and produces something as conclusive and different. All I have seen to date is babble.
