This weeks tomato is..Jerry's German Giant. For all you who like Big tomatoes and a great hamburger slicer this is what you want!! These and Giant Belgium just killed my Big Zacs in the size dept..I dont grow for size but it does happen. These are a pink RL slightly acid flavor, and they also throw yellows. It has a very good flavor and the plants get huge, medium production and consistant size.

My Favourite!!! The pinks are good, but I love the yellows. I had soooo many of these in 2008 that my homemade Veggie Juice had a yellow 'glow' to it. :)Or could that have had something to do with the hydro towers that ran across the back of our farm?? I didn't start any JGG's this year. I thought I'd raise some other varieties that I'd yet to try instead. Now I'm wishing I'd saved a little space for this big brutes. I found a pic from 2008. The pink bottom left is a Pink Accordian, bottom right, Yellow JGG and in behind in a Granny Cantrell German Red.

What do you mean "throws" yellows??? On the same plant??? I mean that in a batch of ten seeds, perhaps 2 plants will throw yellow tomatoes, so no, not on the same plant.

Leave it to BC to put out a variety commercially that is basically two different varieties labeled as one.

Yes, but JT , it is a Local tradition from Jerry's Missouri Farm Association Tire Shop in Mansfield, MO. Saved by Jerry's family who prolly were of German descent?
I like the idea. Why? Because it's quaint and a local heirloom from that area. And that's exactly why I purchased the seeds.

I think this is relatively typical of Yellow German type tomatoes to "throw" variations of bicolors. I think this one is neat that it gives pink and yellows. Most of the Yellow German types give golds and reds.
And I don't look at it as a "Baker Creek" issue at all. It's more of a traditional "mountaineer" type thing like BlueLace says. I think you'd find the same kind of thing in the Appalachians with all the Yellow German variations too numerous to name. This one just happens to be from the Ozarks.
Peace, PV
