coworker gave me 15 strawberry sets this past spring as he had extra and made a patch in the yard for them. Started picking them last week - and wow they are tastey! Little L has been enjoying them as well, lol ~ ~ Tom

thanks! she really enjoys them. Picked almost 20 more fruit last night and they are really coming in strong now - do strawberries produce all season long or just early summer ?

Depends on the variety. There are everbearing plants. We had a mixed patch years ago, but if memory serves me correctly, the everbearing were larger and longer harvest but less tasty than the smaller ones? Perhaps your neighbour will recall what variety they are?

If you are getting a flush of ripe ones now, chances are they may be June bearers.
Mine love strawberries. You can't get much healthier fruit for them either.

Tom, I looked up info on Strawberries in the Time Life Encyclopedia of Gardening.
It says that Everbearers produce an early summer crop as well as a fall crop, along with some berries intermittently during the summer season. They produce well for 3 years but after that should be replaced. In hot climates such as Florida, they only produce well for one season.
A single strawberry plant will produce approximately one pint of fruit in a season.
At the time of publication (1972), the recommendations for New York, New England and eastern Canada include June bearers Fairfax, Catskill, Surecrop and Sparkle. Everbearer would be Ozark Beauty, which I know I've grown. Surecrop too.

thanks for the info! I found out they are called: Tribute Strawberries and are an ever-bearing variety - this should be fun - now just need to expand the patch a bit, lol

I have 3 day neutral varieties, tristar, evie and seascape. they all make a crop in june and then less throughout the summer.
tristar is the tastiest by far of the three. the other two are nearly identical and make larger marketable berries.
