She was abandoned, and "spontanesouly muted into our bear" I bottlr fed her and kept her semi wild, she smelled the deer in the pole barn and there she was yesterday. She is about 4 Aww. I would have given her the bottle too. Carolyn, the DEC says there are no Black Bear in your area? Are they serious? lol My county now has a bear season (gun). So I guess they are just hanging out in Schoharie & Greene Counties. I think my cousin still holds the record for Bear with a Bow. It was over 600 lbs. The poor kids ate bear meat for months. lol

So I guess they are just hanging out in Schoharie & Greene Counties. I think my cousin still holds the record for Bear with a Bow. It was over 600 lbs. The poor kids ate bear meat for months. lol DEC says NO Black Bears in Southern Washington CO. Yes, in northern and there is a gun season for them there. Like there's a mile wide moat that separates N from S Washington County. ;D I didn't realize you were in NYS, based on the counties that you mentioned. Leaving my driveway it's 2 miles to the VT border one way and 5 miles the other way, and there are no border police, viz DEC, so everything they've got in Vt we get including their deer, their moose, and on and on. They have a moose lottery each year, we don't. We just watch the meese ( pl of moose, LOL) plodding along. All the articles about the new bear laws mention that the major problem is in the western part of the state where homes have been invaded and people attacked. My defense if the sliding glass doors in the LC are open to the screen part is to grab and old fashioned LOU bell that my mother used to use to get my brother and myself in for dinner from wherever we were playing. Someone told me the bears don't like the sound of bells. And last weekend was the well known wild dinner at the Rupert, VT Firehouse, just an 8 min drive from where I live. Folks drive from out of state to attend. I read what was being offered, but wasn't tempted. Bow season for deer ends this weekend and rifle starts, then muzzle. When I first moved here I bought a bright orange vest to wear whenever I was outside. I have 30 acres here and it's all posted, but that doesn't mean anything to most of the hunters around here. This is dairy country and the deer are cornfed so lots of folks from everywhere converge here to shoot. I was raised in a hunting family. My father would shoot anything that had four legs or flew, in season of course. I still have pictures of the deer his Rod and Gun Cluib hung from the beams in one of our old barns. And several of his mounted deer heads are out in the tool shed/ When I moved here I wanted to just SEE the wild animals here, you know, live ones, and there's a herd of about 12-15 deer that hang out here. One old doe has been around for at least 8 years now and it's easy to ID her b'c she has a long scar on her left flank. I do not like deer season here at all b'c my front room is a huge hexagon, actually the front 2/3 is the LV/DR and the back 1/3 the kitchen, but it's ALL glass in that front part and I worry constantly that someone is going to put some bullets thru that glass. Darth sends Carolyn bullet proof glass. And how much would that cost? ;D There are three panels of 3 windows each, Andersen double paned, about 10 ft tall and 4 ft wide for each window and the central window in each set of three slides open s to a screen door, which is great in the summer b'c then I can hear the water cascading over the 30 ft waterfall that goes next to my deck. I've lost two of those single windows already. One time the wife of the person who used to mow the lawn sent a rock through it with the weedwhacker. The second time I was minding my own business sitting in my recliner chair and one window spontaneously fractured. I had to admit with the AM light it actually was very pretty. With that last one window I think my insurance paid something close to $800 for a replacement and that was at least 7 years ago. Somehow I don't think my home owners pollicy would pay for bullet proof glass for nine windows of that size. ;D Next best thing is the Sherriff's Deputy who lives up the road from me if he can get here from the station quick enough to arrest the shooter. Carolyn, I live in Schoharie County about 8 miles from SUNY Cobleskill.
Yeah, the hunters will be out in full force tomorrow. Orange clothing pretty much means nothing here. Same with the posted signs. They shoot anything that moves. One of the guys at the Agway got his elbow shattered last season. I don't mind if people hunt for the meat. It's when they just want the "rack" I get pissed off. I'll be surprised if I see alot of huge bucks in the contests. There are no bucks around here anymore. There were tons of does with no babies this yr.

There's a lot of folks in my area who HAVE to do that to get by and there are two of them, one being Freda who does all my gardening and so much more. Hope you saw my begging for seeds for that heart shaped Indian Stripe in that other thread, fingers crossed. Carolyn

Carolyn, I have no seeds for that Indian Stripe. That thread was started by bluelytes. I have her email addy if you need it. That would be great if you could PM me her e-mail addy. Next season I'm growing a PL Indian Stripe sent to me so why not try a heart shaped one as well. And then there's the heart shaped Orange Minsk sent to me as well, but even he thinks it was just the weather b'c not all fruits on the same plant were heart shaped. But I love hearts and I love Orange Minsk, so what the heck, if the shape isn't what I want to see I can just eat the fruits and ignore saving any seeds. ;D Carolyn

Thanks Gunnar, I hadn't thought of looking there. And yes, she shows her e-mail addy while many folks don't, including me. And I got a good laugh b'c someone had filled in a blank saying I was a "breeder in training". Would that I could get out there and actually do some deliberate crosses, but I can't. Carolyn

Carolyn Carolyn, Everybody with a certain amount of posts has that as their title. I went back and looked at the whole membership list and I see that it goes from New Member to Breeder in Training to Seasoned Vet to Tomatophile. But there a few folks here who ARE professional breeders and some amateur breeders who aren't so very amateur at all, so lets get them Ided as well. Just a wee suggestion that the site owner and Mods might discuss at some time. Carolyn

And all my fault b'c I thought that it was Flower Power who had those IS seeds and innocently asked about getting some. Yes, my fault, my fault entirely. We were doing fine with the bears until I posted that one sentence. How can you ever forgive me for such a transgression, the mind boggles at the possibilities. I shall now go to the Outhouse and stay there for an indeterminate length of time, as such transgressors should if they EVER alter the main topic of a thread anywhere. Carolyn
