Ok, this time of the year is tough for forums..But it is also an exciting time because this is the magic season!! This is the time all my mad scientist buds make the magic!!! I love it and am looking forward to all your accomplishments, and I also get to help some of you with growouts..That in it self is a treat. But it is always nice to hear what you are working with so please answer this simple question: What are you crosseing this year!! ? And what are your plans for these crosses?

Right now? Nuttin honey!!
Too damned hot and humid around here.
I tried a few and not many took. I think I got one or two good takes so far.
But crossing action is suspended for June and probably July for me.
I'll report back in August and September ... maybe. If the weather cools and barometer rises in time to make seed.
Peace, PV

If I told you, I would have to kill you. I have attempted about 15 so far. Will have to wait and see if they take.

JayTee, you should be crossing Late Blight Resistant x Greater Late Blight Resistance!

This is prime crossing season in MN, and I got a good start today. Among other things I made my first cross of a blue/black P20 F2 plant to a few unrelated beefsteak and heart types.

Daggone! I'm jealous. It's been so hot and humid here that being outside is nearly unbearable, and THAT was before July 1. Though I'll be on the weather lookout for some cool evenings and mornings (which we CAN have) in hopes that I can get a successful cross or two, I may have to plan any crossing experiments as soon as the plants begin to blossom after being planted next year. And there is BER of course that can happen on the earlier fruits, including anything crossed.

You can start as soon as plants are blooming in the spring.

That may be the best bet if no BER shows up on the crosses. I'd HOPED to use parents of tomatoes that didn't have BER, or were somewhat resistant to it. The Goose Creeks didn't have it, but some of the early Brandywines did.
I've about decided to forget crossing Break O'Day tomatoes with anything. They're very tart-sour without providing much taste complexity, though they are wonderfully heat-tolerant. But so are the Goose Creeks.

I wasn't going to do any this year, but my Brandywine x Black Krim are corrupted because I took a short cut and put pollen on open blossoms. Having redone that cross with closed buds and first day buds early in the morning (emasculated) I have Brandywine and BK pollen on hand.
Grub's Mystery Green had come hither eyes when I walked past so she got tickled with the Brandywine brush.
This time of year is bad because the buds are so little and seem to open quickly. Its hard to find trusses that I can work with.

My problem is that it has become to hot and humid for the process, so I think this year is done at this point.

Hopefully got Coyote x Brandywine done today. I didnt break the stigma off this time. The only problem would be if I let the pollen sit to long. It had been sitting outside for around 48 hours.

I've got fruit set on several crosses to a oouple of Randy Gardner's new LB/EB resistant plum hybrids. Wow, do these things kick out the fruit! I'm going to begin introgressing these disease resistant traits into many of my breeding lines.
