Ok so I take a day off from the garden yesterday go out there today and find my Giants and Kobacha squash trying to vine into my first row of maters. And the leaves on them are huge!!!!! Flower buds are forming now. Also my sugar baby watermelons are starting to take off and are showing signs of going crazy like my Giants. Just waiting for everything to do this crazy unreal growth thing. Weather was perfect for gardening today.

Those vining types will do that Kevin! Watch out they don't grab ahold of your ankle and drag you into the foray!

Ciao Kevin-
I know what you mean. My Galeaux d'Eyesines pumpkins attempted to escape into my neighbour's yard and fortunately, I was able to pull them back without harming the leaves. The plants themselves are about 3 ft tall now, not quite as tall as the corn but close.
I also have some Bianca di Trieste zucchini growing between the cucumbers and bean trellis. Those monsters are trying to push out the cucumbers, but fortunately for them, the plants are already taller than the zucchini and they have towers to climb and get out of the way.
I'm loving this cucurbit production, personally. I always have trouble getting the harvests of squash I need. I think Duane and I are at the point where we've conceded that the bed we allotted to the summer squash just doesn't have enough sun. The dappled sunlight that bed receives later in the day from the plum tree next to it is enough to thwart really good growth and production. After seeing how well the Bianca di Trieste are growing in their new spot, we've already started to make plans for a new squash bed over by the main tomato bed for next year.

I think this is not only going to be a good year for maters but also pumpkins. We are going to have starting today three cool days without rain in the 70's. Last night though we hit a low of 49. Saturday and Sunday we will get hot again and hit around 90. So I have time to finish planting and weeding before it gets to hot for me again.

Good Plan Kevin. We have the same weather here. Long sleeves an long pants today....brrrrrrr...But I found it to be an excellent day to weed the flowerbeds without having to share the space with Masses of Mosquitobombers. I'm rather concerned about the eggplants being set back. The Sicilian ones were just beginning to bloom. Hope your garden doesn't suffer any. Now get that Planting done!

Well Blue we should be fine with my garden. I look to be picking things clear into Halloween as we did last year.09 was a bad year for pumpkins at least for me.Was kind of jealous of the local Amish fields as they seemed to do well. Add to that the garden area had not been used for several years I was lucky to even get what I did. This year is different with much better weather and much healthier vines. If things keep up this should be my best crop of pumpkins since I left California. And with 8 different varieties it could shape up to be my most diverse harvest ever as well. First time I ever grew this many types of pumpkins. Pretty proud of my patch so far.

Whooooo . My Kobacha has tiny little squash on the vine. Not blooming yet but should be soon. Male flower buds are also developing. So my Kobacha will be first to flower and likely first to set fruit.
