At one point I read a bit about this gene, and must have forgotten it as something I would probably never see, but I found it available in Spitfire VFFA Hybrid so my interest is piqued.
Other than making the flesh look pretty, and probably boosting something healthy like lycopene, what good is it? how does it act in a cross?
Mainly, does it affect flavor in any noticable way, and how would it act with gf?" Could I end up with some sort of intense "black" flesh"? would it totally mask out the green?
I don't ever see myself trying to develop something to sell (pretty red tomato with vitamins), but if I can use it to get something strange and unusual that is another matter.

Where is lycopene located -- in the skin or in the flesh? The tomato color for pink and red depends on the translucent skin color, so are you wondering about the crimson gene that determines the flesh color in these two colors?
I assume you mean a crimson gene that provides crimson color to the flesh rather than, say, orange or yellow or black flesh.

c Beta-carotene crimson og^c,Crn,Cr,crn-2,cr-2 Increased fruit lycopene content; phenotype similar to B^og.
I was confusing it with the high pigment genes.
