Due to the fine teachers instruction I recieved here at TTG I have emasculated 50 tomatoes, 25 cherries and 25 beefsteaks, oh and spud I did destroy a couple stigmas later in the day {2}. I guess that is to be expected. This is my first big attempt, I was however successful with the first cross I tried, That was crossing the Grandpas, If successful the progeny will be dubbed "King Spud". It will be hard to tell if they took as they are both PL. This site is the only one I know of that has the ability to teach one how to do their own crosses {With explanation}. This place is a plethora of knowledge!! The best truly reside here. Thank you my friends, for putting up with all my dumb questions and being patient. Special Thanks to Spud, for tolerating my phone calls, oh..and you too Pap!!!! It is hard to single one guy out here!!! Dean Slater ;D

I agree Dean - tho mulio is correct, crossing can sound more intimidating than it is. Folks should just try it. Based on the info provided here and other places, there is plenty of guidance on techniques, you just have to roll up your sleeves and do it, see what works, what doesn't, and do it again .... until you develop a technique that works for you. After a couple years of experimenting I can routinely make 15-20 crosses a day. Crossing should not be the limiting factor - growing out the F2 progeny will limit what you can accomplish.

Well, you need to wait and see if: a] the pollen fertilizes and starts forming fruit (about 5-10 days) b] the fruit doesnt get BER c] the fruit doesnt get knocked off d] the fruit doesnt get picked accidentally e] the fruit doesnt get eaten by some critter f] disease doesnt wipe out the plant g] you successfully ferment seed h] the seed doesnt get eaten by mice overwinter i] the seed germinates j] the line expresses in some way you are sure it took k] a-j goes okay for about 6-8 more generations and then you can name it
