Hi All,
Well as you know I have had some ups and downs in the garden. Some of my pumpkin vines as you know fell victim to the evil SVB critters. But there may be some hope. The peanut pumpkin as we Americans have called is down but not out. I have one plant left which I am babying in hopes to get something from it by Halloween. It is a little week but untouched by the SVB. piled some soil around the base so it will send out new roots and be able to get more nutrients from the soil.I have done likewise with my other French pumpkins and Cinderella does have fruit set on one vine.So there is a chance I still may have something from these French classics.
Atlantic Giant despite some minor svb damage is fast becoming the star of the patch. One pumpkin in particular is growing at a fast pace and is about I would say around 40 pounds at this time. And there are three others on separate vines doing well. Howden has its one lone pumpkin which looks like it will be an excellent Jack O Lantern with a nice long stem. My Kabocha vines seem to be starting to die back but not from SVB but because they are almost ripe I have counted 9 of them of various size and are a bright orange rather than the traditional green/blue color.
On to the tomatoes. As you know I have several this year. Some of which are Camo picks.I figure to have ripe tomatoes in about a week or so.But it is up in the air as to which might end up ripe first. And it should be between three new to me varieties. Rose,Black Krim and Mariana's Peace. These three have some nice size tomatoes which look great. And of coarse Black Krim had to produce at least one funky shaped mater. Also Italian Giant Paste is also has some lookers on them which are indeed the largest paste tomatoes I have ever seen and no BER showing thus far.All other tomatoes are doing very well and I hope to have a great harvest.
Peppers Bell and hot. My Bell peppers are doing very well and I have some impressive looking plants. They are setting fruit and blooming in earnest now so I expect to have a good harvest with these. We have an interesting development with the hot peppers. Some I thought where JalapeƱos ain't . They seem to be one of the large peppers like maybe Big Jim or Anaheim. The others are indeed the real deal. Both peppers are blooming and setting fruit well and should be ready by maybe the third week of the month.
Cucumbers have been my star producer so far.To date from these five Burpee Hybrid 2 plants we have harvested 38 cukes which are very nice and full of good cucumber flavor.
That's about it for now. I will keep you all posted.Sorry I do not have pics.Still no camera at this time.
