I joined a few days ago and wanted to say hello and introduce myself. I grew up gardening with my grandmother and can only think of a couple of years out of my entire life that we've not had a garden. My husband and I ventured out of the hybrid rut last year when we tried Cherokee Purple, Green Zebra and Yellow Brandywine. We quickly found how much better heirlooms and open-pollinated ones are and this year we're growing:
1. Aunt Ruby’s German Green 2. Beauty King 3. Beefsteak 4. Berkeley Tie-Dye 5. Big Cheef 6. Big Girl Hybrid 7. Black & Brown Boar 8. Black Cherry 9. Black from Tula 10. Black Krim 11. Brandywine (Sudduths) 12. Brandywine, Red 13. Box Car Willie 14. Carbon 15. Cherokee Purple 16. Chico III 17. Costoluto Genovese 18. Coyote 19. Early Wonder 20. Green Zebra 21. Haley’s Purple Comet 22. Heinz 1439 23. Hillbilly 24. Kellogg Breakfast 25. Large Red Cherry 26. Marglobe 27. Moonglow 28. Opalka 29. Red Zebra 30. Rutgers 31. Wisconsin 55 32. Red Plum 33. Yellow pear
We had a very wet, cold spring/early summer so our garden didn't get planted as early as we do most years and are just now starting to get a few ripe tomatoes.
