After having read posts for a while it is time to join in the fun. Some may recognize me from another forum or two. There are folks here who are familiar and some not so familiar. It is nice to have lots of information from all over. Thanks to the site and to those who post. This looks like another good one.
For those who don't know, I garden in S.E. Nebraska; my wife's hometown and the house where she grew up is where we retired five years ago. Before that we lived and gardened in south central Iowa. Gardening has been a hobby/passion for nearly forty years. I have worked in a garden longer than that if you count the years I had to toil in my father's gardens. I grew up in Oregon, we then moved back to Iowa and I continued to have to work in and hate gardens until we got married. The first summer after our marriage, you guessed it, We planted our own garden.
I "discovered' heirloom tomatoes in 1998 and there has been no looking back since. As of this year I have only planted and raised around 250 varieties on my way toward the 4 or 5 thousand mark if I live that long. Help on the tomato sites has been immeasurable, so keep it coming. I will take part as often as I have something of value (and as many know, even if I have nothing of value) to add.

Welcome Paul. It sounds like you are just as nuts about heirloom tomatoes as the rest of us, so you should fit in nicely here! That's an admirable goal to grow out 4-5k, so that means you will spend about half of your life sowing seed, digging, weeding, planting out, staking and tying, tasting and seed saving. That will certainly keep you off the streets for quite a while!

Thanks everyone for the welcome. I am itching to get started again. I am acquiring seeds to start in 2011; a couple more and I am ready.
