I know some folks may not want to talk about their health on a public forum but being I have some darn good friends here and on other forums I wanted to tell all of you because many of you have been so supportive these last few years. As some here know I had an appointment in Jackson yesterday for an SSD evaluation. The doctor that I saw went through the whole thing in just about ten min. During that time he told me some of what was on the medical reports. In short the big one was I have less then 30% of my heart working. This came as no real shock to me. With everything that has come to light finally I am reminded of a dear friend Countrygma and her own battles with her health and how upbeat and supportive she was.I just wanted you all to know what is going on after many of you have been so kind to me and my family.Don't worry I will push on and keep gardening and share the wonders of nature and our joys and sorrows with you all my dear gardening friends.I am in good hands.
Btw I did go to the hospital in Jackson too but for X-Rays of my back and knees.Been giving me some trouble and SSA wanted to check that out too.On the good side I found out I lost about 10 or more pounds.yea me!! Also have you all been in a hospital that was fancy enough to offer valet service? I swear I never have seen such a service for hospitals but I think it is an excellent idea for folks who can not get around to well.

Kevin, before my heart surgery, my EF (ejection fraction is a measurement of function which is what I think your doctor is referring to) was 20 - 25%. After surgery, it only got up to 30% until a really good electrocardiologist got a hold of me and adjusted my meds.
Ask your cardiologist (or GP if he knows his stuff) about Coreg, Altace and Aldactone. Those three meds are wonder drugs for people with low heart muscle function, which is what I assume you are talking about.
After religiously following my medication schedule, my EF has been 48 - 60% for the past 5 years. 60% EF is about the best a 60 y/o man can expect, btw.

Kevin, there now are generics for all three of those meds, and the generics are very affordable. Samples for Coreg are hard to come by, but the other two not so hard, in my experience. As I said, please ask you doctor what he thinks about those three meds. Just ask him. And maybe suggest he contribute some samples, if he thinks they would address your specific condition.
