I was wondering how many people have done their own crosses and have stabilized them, and are growing them along with established cultivars?

About 20 years ago one yellow/red tomato showed up unexpectedly in my garden. I was so thrilled by it that I saved seeds from tomato for the first time. It would be decades before I heard the term "stabilize" in regards to tomatoes. But each year for about 6 years I saved seeds from the plant with the biggest fruits and the most distinctive striping. Then I moved and mice ate my seed stash.

I have a variety of my own - Iva's Red Berry, that derived from an intentional cross of an unstable Sungold (at the time I thought I got the real thing, but it turned out it was saved seed from the hybrid) and Supersweet 100, it took me a long time to get what I wanted out of it, a red cherry with great taste and superb production, the only thing I didn't know how to get rid of was the occasional cracking, but who cares, when everything else is great ;D
There was also a red selection of that Sungold, but I'm not pleased with it anymore, as this one cracks like hell and is still not stable, so I'm dropping it...

I've stabilized a string of varieties from some unknown hybrid (the "Coastal" series), Taos Trail from Santa, Black Yumyum from a Black Krim variant, and Rita's Black from a variant branch on a Belgian Farmer's Beefsteak, but I've never made a cross myself.

I have stabilized 2 accidental crosses from my garden, a Yellow Brandywine x ? & a Green Zebra x black ?. I have done 2 intentional crosses, 1 worked out well, the other one didn't pan out! It takes some dedication to grow all those plants, plus willingness to grow out these plants over known varieties that I was aching to grow! Of course, the good thing is you get to eat all of them! I had all sorts of people growing out my F2s & F3s. Inevitably some people would fail to get back to me with a fruit & leaf sample. Steve

I have a couple God Crosses, one of them is Darth Mater, it is very juicy and has great flavor. There were some people who said it wasn't a heart pfft, but on each plant there always are some large hearts, if anyone has grown Anna Russian this is to be expected. The Mother was Anna Russian and the Father was Black From Tula and the only Black tomato that year in the area. I have given away alot of seeds and am hoping to see alot of pics!

Here's Iva's Red Berry in 2010. Nice strands of excellent tasting fruit. I didn't notice any cracking.
