I have been lurking on here for quite some time! Wanted to introduce myself after all this time (not weeks or months....yes at least a few growing seasons). I container grow, simply out of necessity. I live on rock... limestone rock and outcroppings all around-northwest of Austin. I would need a jackhammer to plant a garden in the ground. Did a few raised gardens a few times, but rabbits and deer where a disaster. Going to try again with a fence around raised beds this fall. I grow mostly heirlooms and just a few hybrids....and a couple of other vegetables. I have really enjoyed the dialogue here. Some of the other forums make my (like someone posted here long ago and I laughed out loud) my hair hurt!! LOL!!! How could you not like a forum with a post like that! . My dear hubby is not a gardner, but enjoys the results....

Welcome welcome. Zone 8b. That's pretty close to Tucson's climate. Gardening in rock outcroppings? That is pretty extreme! (=

Yes, it is extreme. Yard work is like prison work around here - bustin' rock! Can't tell you how many tractor blades we've gone through on this acreage. The rocks are like icebergs in the ground. Containers are it! Until fall anyway; FENCE and raised beds. Although, putting in fence posts will be no small task.
