I have a little electric heater in my 10'X20' poly green house and think maybe instead of risking anything , I should pick all my tomatoes. Will it make a difference if I pull the whole vine up and hang it indoors , or simply pick the tomatoes and put them on a dark shelf inside ? I just retired and am attempting to grow heirloom tomatoes. So far I have hundreds ,but only a few ripened so far. I have read that once the tomato is starting to turn from green that is has all it needs to be ripe and tasty in time. What about the green ones? will they ripen and still have the taste of vine ripened ones ? I made many mistakes this year and hope to make less mistakes with your help on this forum. Neal

I also have a 10 x 20 greenhouse. Those "little electric heaters" are not sufficient to keep the tomatoes from freezing... BUT only if the temperature gets well below freezing. If it hovers around 32 degrees then the heater will be "just" enough depending on your greenhouse's insulating properties.
