I got some rubine brussels at a local seed swap, but I couldn't get them to germinate. It is about time to start all brassicas for a fall harvest, so I will try once again to get germination. Did anyone else have germination issues with rubine, or did I get old seeds at the swap?

I have tried to grow the rubine with little luck but it is also possible the seeds was old seed. If any doubt about the seed being old you might try to soak some in a little water to test the germination factor before planting the rest of the seed since it was an heirloom variety. I have had better results with other varieties such as "bubbles, jade cross, oliver and I think the other one was called royal marvel" All of those grew better and had the same flavor plus I notice that the Bubble was heat and drought tolerant that we have in the Kansas City area.

Hi. I used fresh seed for Rubine from Territorial Seeds and had good germination. Just seeing what they do.

Stratcat, you really do think like me when it comes to growing vegetables that are non-traditional colours. I didn't get seed for the purple brussels sprout but I'd love to grow it. Maybe in the fall we can do a trade. Sorellina, Of course, I'll be glad to trade. We'll keep in touch. BTW, I planted Blauwschokkers peas on St. Joseph's Day and the flowers do have a nice fragrance! john

I am still saving seeds, and plants are still producing, but, I thought it was about time to update this thread. I do still have many of the seeds listed earlier, they are from 2009, but I keep them refrigerated so they should do well. I will go through and update those at a later date. I do have new seeds grown in 2010 that I will be interested in swapping: Cherokee Purple (I was not impressed with taste or size, maybe it was drought?) Risentraube OSU cherry sized, not as dark as some, but very tasty OSU medium sized, good but not as sweet as cherry, mostly blue shoulders Pawpaw seeds Egyptian Onions Ottoman Hy tobacco Samsun tobacco More tobacco, tomatoes, and garlic chives will be maturing later on.
