I really wish this could be opposite of what Camo had to say but it ain't. While it was large and meaty it was just absolutely flavorless.Should have more coming before to long so maybe the next round will be better. I really am at a loss as to why it lacked flavor except that it might be climate related. Anyone growing it.
That's not good news! I was planning to grow this variety in 2011, as I heard some very good reviews. Hmmm....
On the other hand, in my own experience this year (which has been a bad tomato year even by our PNW standards), many tomatoes in my greenhouses are not as flavorful as I'd normally expect. Lots of mealy/mushy and uneven ripening happening there. On the opposite, my container garden is doing extremely well this year, and all tomatoes are super flavorful (some are super sweet and some are super zesty).
I am thinking this may be both weather and soil related... I have not amended the soil in my greenhouses this year other than a shovel of horse manure per plant at the planting time, but my container plants got plenty of mushroom manure. Plus the wild temperature fluctuations in the greenhouses were probably not good either...
Take two today folks.Much better. And did not need seasoning.Great taste with this second tomato. So now things are more interesting. I would say this tomato was in the 10 to 12 oz range.A very good slicer and a well flavored black.I do encourage folks to try it.
Btw Dean I just wonder what went wrong with that first fruit. But then I have seen reports where a popular tomato would have first fruit on other varieties including Vorlon that just did not have any taste to it and then get other fruit afterwords that would be fantastic. And it would be under favorable conditions. Very interesting.

The Vorlon my wife and I ate was very good. Not quite as good as the Carbon, but this was also the first tomato from that plant. I have two more that should be ready in two days, but this one is already on my list for next year. It made a fabulous BLT

I tiold Kevein at idig, that mine were fantastic, just a little under Danas Dusky Rose. They had a great flavor and were very uniform, the plants were no monster though, but were healthy.
