MYSTERY SOLVED!!!
Those are not related in any way to Big Cheef.
What you have there is Amarillo, a cross of Juane Flamme x Sun Gold, which I sent the F1 to Grub in Australia in winter 2006, and he sent back the F2s which I've been growing since then. I sent some to Darth who got the exact same results as you show. I also have grown them the past two summers with the same results you show and describe. Orange outside, smooth skin, egg shaped, red/orange in the center, two and three seed cells, sharp fruity taste.
I must've let an Amarillo seed stray into your pack of Big Cheef.

Ah Ha, now we know the story, sounds good . I only called these Golden Cheef because of where they grew and came from a Big Cheef pack. So Amarillo it is. Answer me this, Are the seeds I collected this year Amarillo F3 or?

Answer me this, Are the seeds I collected this year Amarillo F3 or? What you grew was F3. So your seeds now are F4. Here are pictures of the F3 fruit from which I got the seeds, including your stray seed that showed up apparently in the Big Cheef pack. As you can see, I chose the vines that gave tomatoes with skin quality and fruit shape that favors Juane Flamme because I find them most attractive. My vines last year and this year were extremely prolific but did not have the same truss arrangement as either Juane Flamme or Sun Gold, which I cannot explain. Darth also grew the F3s up in Michigan and got larger tomatoes than I did but he says they were just as long lived and productive as what I grew down here in Southwest Indiana. How did they do for you in Alabama heat? pv

Paps, They did very well down here, They survived the extreme heat we had this summer and they suffered a comeback here lately and i'm now picking a few ripe ones.
I'm glad I saved seeds, I will grow a row of these this next year, I think they have a fantastic taste with a good punch.
So Amarillo F4 it is, It seems this variety is already stable.
