I posted earlier pics of OSU, it was mostly red, with just a blush of blue on the shoulders. Well, it has matured since then, and now it is black. I mean black all over. No green left anywhere. So how do I know when it is ripe?

Feeling them is probably the best bet now, but I saw this next info posted else where and it might help. What they said they did was put those little stickers that are shaped like hearts, stars, etc on them to decorate there OSU type blue tomatoes. The point being is if you do that next time, when in doubt take a sticker off and if it is red its ripe.

Oh I like that sticker idea... Well, I didn't know they were going to turn black! They had been red with a blue blush at the shoulders all summer! Surprised me!

I think they are fantastic. I did not like Cherokee purple at all. I loved these, Hillbilly, and Pink Oxheart. Peach Blow sutton, Banana Legs, Grueso, Risentraube and Yellow stuffer were just okay. And all of them put together couldn't match the productivity of this one plant. Brandywine, Rutgers, and Burpee's long Keeper were all a bust, same conditions and they failed to set fruit. Decent plants, same fertilizers, same schedule, and notta.

Just like there is someone for everyone. Not one tomato fits all! And this one has been crossed, before I got it. I had cherry tomatoes on this plant and regular size tomatoes, that were kind of blah, not bad, just not interesting on other seeds from the same source.

Ah, but they sure are purty, eh? I might grow one just to see them in person...
